Sacred Space Restoration Project  12:21 Monday, 11/2/2008
Hello all!

We are very pleased to announce that the Sacred Space Restoration Project (SSRP!) started today. This space has been in use in its current guise since 1987 when it was generously donated to the school by the Past Pupils Union. It has been used for a wide variety of events, including class masses, staff masses, reflections during lent and occasions for Holy Hours. It has indeed seem much usage.

We were delighted to receive the support of the Trustees for this project. They have generously given a significant sum to the project which has allowed us to have the services of the well known Sacred Space designer, Fergus Costello. His vision for the newly restored Sacred Space will, we are very confident, prove to be a very significant one for the future of Synge Street CBS as it seeks to sustain its ethos for future generations.

The total cost of the restoration is very significant and we are hard at work to make sure that it happens without recourse to school finances! Included in our plans is a fund-raising concert featuring the Dunboyne Consort, under their director, Dermot Brophy. Excerpts from Georg Frederic Handel's Sacred Oratorio, 'Messiah', will be performed. The tentative date for this concert is Saturday, April, 19th 2008. What better way to commemorate this wonderful work, first performed in The Old Musik Theatre in Fishamble Street in April 1742 than to mark the restoration of a Sacred Space very close to the site of the original performance?

We will be in contact with you all well in advance of this date with further details of tickets etc.

If you feel that you wish to contribute to the fund raising in a personal capacity please do not hesitate to forward your contribution to the school. All contirbutions, no matter how small, are welcomed.

Thank you.
