  • Synge Street Primary School is only FIVE minutes walk from the

    LUAS LINE (View Street Map)

    in Harcourt Street.

When the New school building opened in 1954 many pupils used the Harcourt Street railway line to travel to and fro from school. Pupils can again renew this tradition by travelling on the LUAS. The photograph (below right) is the Main Entrance through which the first pupils entered the New Primary School Building on May 20th 1954.

In keeping with the Revised Curriculum, the teaching staff plans and resources wide and varied learning activities for all pupils. The school is equipped to the highest standards in I.C.T. technology, mathematical and resource materials and also maintains the traditions of past generations by promoting sports and life skills.Pupils have extra Drama and Music classes which add greatly to the total development of the child. Swimming classes are arranged for junior classes throughout the school year. Hurling, football and basketball are also promoted in association with Kevins Hurling Club, Synge Street-Templeogue G.A.A. Club and individual school staff members.

A welcome addition to the school, in recent times, has been the modernising of the school library through the generosity of a kind benefactor. The pupils are fortunate to have many such generous benefactors, parents, guardians and friends who have tirelessly, throughout the years, donated their time and personal skills by fund raising and contributing in many other ways to supporting Synge Street Primary School.

The school is under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin and promotes the Catholic ethos. Children of other religious demoninations also attend but do not receive religious instruction in the Catholic faith. Pupils who are of the Catholic faith receive the sacraments of First Holy Communion while in second class and Confirmation while in sixth class. Most pupils who graduate from Sancta Maria C.B.S. Primary School enroll in Saint Paul's Secondary School, Heytesbury Street, or Synge Street Secondary, as it has been more commonly known for generations.

The learning needs of all pupils are supported by integrating specialised learning periods with ordinary class time, or with classwork and activities, either on a daily or periodic basis.
